A budget panel will meet Friday determining revenue projections for the state. It’s the first of three key events to help set Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s agenda for 2024.

The dryly-titled Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference will use a variety of factors to make its economic forecasts. It will also adopt a projection of how much money the Whitmer administration and the Legislature will have to create a state budget. Michigan’s current budget is almost $82 billion to pay for schools, colleges and universities, law enforcement and other government functions.

The next event on the calendar is Whitmer’s January 24th State of the State address to outline her priorities to the Legislature. And not long after that, Whitmer will present her new budget proposal to add details to her plans and how much they will cost. Then it’s up the Legislature to debate and adopt a budget by the October 1st deadline.
