Patrick De Haan of Gas Buddy predicts diesel fuel will also cost less in 2024, which could have an impact on the cost of products transported by trucks

Gas Buddy founder Patrick De Haan, an oil industry analyst from Grand Rapids lives in Chicago now, and commuting is one way he knows first-hand, gas prices are lower.

“$2.99 a gallon even here in Chicago. That was the same price basically across Michigan and Indiana as I drove back from Grand Rapids to Chicago.”

But De Haan also analyzes data, and says its telling him gas prices in 2024 will, on average, be even lower.

“right now we are paying less that what we expect for the yearly national average and then in the summer we are probably going to be paying a little bit more than the average. But all in all the average household is going to be spending less on gasoline that they did in 2023.

De Haan also predicts diesel fuel will also cost less in 2024, which could have an impact on the cost of products transported by trucks.

“You know, things are looking a little bit better in 2024.”
