HG Medical is a contract manufacturer of what it describes as ‘complex’ extremity and spinal orthopedic implants. It offers design, development, prototyping and production.
HG plans to double its North American capacity beyond its Huntington, West Virginia facility. It toured sites in Indiana, Minnesota and Tennessee before deciding the City of Holland’s former Johnson Controls facility is best suited for expansion. It builds on West and Southwest Michigan’s established life sciences and medical devices sector.
HG Medical plans to make a $41 million capital investment. The expansion will require highly skilled engineers, technicians, and administrators. All told, the company will create nearly 200 new jobs.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is supporting the project with a $1.8 million performance-based grant and the Michigan Strategic Fund is supporting it with a five-year State Essential Services Assessment exemption valued at $237,840. The City of Holland is in the process of approving a property tax abatement.
