The Michigan government council tasked with figuring out how to reverse Michigan’s slow population decline released its final report today

The Growing Michigan Together Council report lists three main strategies: turning the state into an “innovation hub,” building a lifelong learning system and creating thriving communities for young talent.

Ollie Howie is with the New Community Transformation Fund Grand Rapids. He says he sees suggestions like a new fund to go after high-growth industries as the most impactful.

“There’s certain goals that we think can be short term strategies and be implemented pretty soon. And some that we think may need some structural change. But, all of it, we think can lead to great outcomes if we’re really diligent.”

The council’s recommendations don’t list out specific suggestions for new revenue sources to pay for some of its ideas.
