Kendra Wenzel selected from pool of 11 eligible candidates.

Kendra Wenzel has been appointed by the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners to serve as 6th District commissioner.

When Kyle Terpstra resigned from the board on November 16th, state law mandates it be filled within 30 days. From a pool of 11 eligible candidates five were selected for interview last week. In a split vote, Wenzel received six votes, Shawn Haff two and Joseph Parnel McCarter one.

During Wenzel’s interview she highlighted her political involvement as Ottawa County Republican Party executive committee member and county precinct delegate.

“I walked my entire precinct for that. Just talking with people giving out literature. Having conversations with everyone. Constituents in my precinct.”

In the written application, when asked why she wanted to be considered for the position, Wenzel cited excessive government overreach eroding constitutional freedoms. In particular, COVID pandemic lockdowns of businesses, churches and schools in 2020.

Ottawa County’s 6th District covers most of Georgetown Charter Township. Wenzel’s term of office expires December 31, 2024.
