The charges relate to the 20-20 presidential election when a group of sixteen allegedly signed a document claiming to cast Michigan’s electoral votes for former President Donald Trump.
That’s despite Trump losing the state by over 100-thousand votes.
During the preliminary exam, a Lansing judge heard from a state trooper who, in 2020, stopped a group of people from entering the Michigan Capitol to allegedly deliver that document.
Michigan’s elections director was also invited to the witness stand. He answered several questions over what led him to alert the authorities.
This is the first round of preliminary exams for defendants in the case. Another group is due back in court in January.
