Christmas is now only 12 days away and it’s expected the holiday season will see its second highest year-end travel since AAA began tracking the numbers in 2000. The travel period runs from December 23rd to January 1st.

More than three million Michigan residents are projected to travel 50 miles or more over the upcoming holiday, year-end travel period. 3. 6 million to be exact. AAA says they expect over 100-thousand “more” state travelers than last year and it will be the second highest year end travel forecast since 2000. Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for the Auto Club Group, says the increase comes despite the cost.

“AAA has seen steady year over the year growth in travel demand, and the year end holidays are no different continued growth and despite various inflationary pressures, Americans are still willing to budget for travel.”

With a near record number of travelers, AAA says the roads and airports are expected to be more crowded than normal. With that, 2019 remains the busiest Christmas and New year’s travel period on record, with 3.7 million travelers.
