The state’s environmental regulator has drafted an air quality enforcement plan for Stellantis’ Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, or EGLE, says the facility violated its air permit in the fall of 2022 by exceeding emission limits for volatile organic compounds.

Erin Moran is an enforcement specialist for EGLE. She says the department is proposing that Stellantis sign a voluntary consent order that lays out a plan for the plant to remain in compliance with air quality emission standards.

“Once they sign it, they legally have to follow that plan that is written in the consent order to resolve the violations as well as pay a fine.”

The fine is for about $84,000. EGLE is seeking public feedback on the agreement between now and January 24th.
