The Rapid bus service is cutting hours in Grand Rapids because they don't have enough drivers.

Leaders of The Rapid stress no routes are being eliminated but they are reducing the hours the buses are running.

As ridership continues to climb, the struggle to have enough drivers available is forcing them to cut service.

Rapid CEO Deb Prato said in a news release that drivers continually tell the Board they are overworked, and working too much overtime.

The new winter service plan addresses the issue by reducing service hours, as the Rapid works to recruit more drivers to fill the routes.

No specifics on the new hours were given but they begin January 2.
