A Michigan lawmaker says he’s planning to join activists and other state lawmakers from across the country in Washington DC this week for a hunger strike.

The hunger strikers are calling on the Biden Administration to get behind a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Democratic Representative Abraham Aiyash says the protest builds on a letter he and a couple dozen other Michigan lawmakers sent to President Biden last week asking him to support a ceasefire.

“No one wants to see children being mauled and murdered. No one wants to see innocent men, women, and seniors attacked and killed and injured. And so, across the board, we recognize that the only way to achieve peace in the region is through diplomacy.”

Aiyash says he believes the hunger strike will end Friday.
