Senita Lenear served Grand Rapids' Third Ward for nearly a decade.

Senita Lenear has announced her candidacy for Grand Rapids mayor. Lenear served two terms as Third Ward City Commissioner from 2014 through 2022.

While serving, Lenear was chairwoman of the Mayor’s Safe Alliance for Everyone Task Force and worked toward addressing the city’s housing needs as a member of the Great Housing Strategies Committee.

Lenear was elected to the Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education in 2009 and later became board president. She also has 25 years of business experience.

“The Southtown Corridor Improvement District Authority Business Area Specific Plan is one of which that I championed and spent time developing. And as a result of that we’ve seen an increase in our small business districts in the neighborhoods where we now are seeing façade improvements and we’re seeing more vibrancy in the neighborhood and in and in those business districts.”

Lenear tells us her ability to engage and implement projects bodes well as the city embarks on its citywide Master Plan.

Lenear joins another former Grand Rapids City Commissioner running for mayor. David LeGrand announced his candidacy earlier this year.

Patrick joined WGVU Public Media in December, 2008 after eight years of investigative reporting at Grand Rapids' WOOD-TV8 and three years at WYTV News Channel 33 in Youngstown, Ohio.
