Processing will pause October 24th through the end of the month.

The Kent County Department of Public Works will upgrade and replace equipment at its Grand Rapids Recycling and Education Center.

This is where residential recyclables from across the area come for processing and converted into new packing, glass bottles and clothing.

Beginning next week, that processing will pause October 24th through the end of the month. Aging equipment will be replaced, and upgrades will be made to improve efficiency. The county will focus on rebuilding the bailer, installing a new glass cleaning system and replacing the conveyor belts.

Residential recyclables will be redirected to Kent County’s Waste Energy Facility.

The residential drop off window will remain open and with items placed in storage until the recycling center is back online.

KCPW is encouraging residents to hold on to their recyclables while the recycling center is offline.
