Charged with four felonies including criminal sexual conduct

After learning of an inappropriate relationship with a student, Allegan Public Schools announced Wednesday it had terminated its Aquatics Director.

Officials from the district say Aquatics Director Scott Simmons had been placed on leave at first, but his employment came to an end after officials learned he had been charged with four felony charges including criminal sexual conduct.

Authorities allege that Simmons began an intimate relationship with a student beginning in August and had secretly met up at various locations in Ottawa County including his home.

Police first became suspicious of the two when an officer found them together in a public park after it had closed for the evening.

According to a press release, the student initially denied the relationship to police, however later admitted the two had engaged in sexual conduct. She said that she was depressed, and Simmons had been helping her battle that depression.

Simmons was arrested after police confiscated his phone and computer which they say contained inappropriate correspondence between the two.

He has denied any wrongdoing.
