Brandy Sue Jones could face especially long prison sentence because of her criminal record

On August 8 police say 40-year-old Brandy Sue Jones of Belding ran over 3 boys walking along Wise Road in Montcalm County, killing one and injuring the other two, and then drove away. This is magistrate Brian Wagner at her arraignment.

“It is alleged on or about August 8, 2023 in Eureka Township in Montcalm County, Michigan that you did commit the offense of failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death.”

14-year-old Jamison Lafferty was killed. His 2 companions survived but have serious injuries. Because Jones is an habitual offender with at least a decade of crimes on her record, she face up to 30 years in prison.

“Miss Jones has a criminal history.”

“She is currently on parole for an offense. It was a deliver, manufacture of methamphetamine.”

Investigators say they believe Jones had been drinking before she hit the boys. And they say a drug test the next day discovered methamphetamine in her urine. She’ll be scheduled for sentencing in 6 to 8 weeks.
