Bills to put a check on medication pricing passed the Michigan Senate today

The legislation would create a “Prescription Drug Affordability Board” to create upper payment limits on certain medicines.

Democratic Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet says the issue of high drug costs has gone on for too long.

The reality is we have to do something, and we would love for Congress to act in a very big way but in that absence, it’s incumbent upon the states to take action and this is our first best shot at trying to get a handle—get our arms around this problem.

Opponents to the legislation say setting price limits won’t work—arguing similar laws in other states haven’t brought real savings.

A handful of other states—including Maryland… Colorado… and Ohio—have their own drug affordability board laws.
