This is the final blow to James and Jennifer Crumbley’s efforts to have the charges dismissed.
The Supreme Court upheld lower courts when it refused to take the case. It’s a rare instance of prosecutors trying to hold parents criminally responsible for providing a gun used by a child in a mass shooting.
Prosecutors also allege the Crumbleys ignored their son’s pleas for help with mental health issues, including violent ideation.
The Crumbleys say they kept the gun safely stored and could not have known it would be turned to such a horrible purpose. Ethan Crumbley has pleaded guilty to 24 charges including murder and terrorism. He could be sentenced to life in prison with no chance for parole.
