Windward Pointe on Muskegon Lake another multi-million dollar development in the works

Would be built on former Sappi Paper Mill site

A new, $220 million redevelopment project on Muskegon Lake may soon become reality, as plans call to redevelop land that once housed a former paper mill.

Parkland Properties and President Jon Rooks are behind the redevelopment proposal, which has been branded "Windward Pointe;" the group is responsible for a number of revitalization projects in the city, including Muskegon’s new convention center downtown.

Costing over $200 million, blueprints for Windward Pointe call for the construction of several new housing units, retail space and a new marina.

The new development will be constructed on what used to be home to the Sappi Paper Mill; an iconic site that once stood as a defining symbol of the city.

Demolished in 2013, the redevelopment in its place is part of a larger effort by city officials to reimagine the relationship residents have with Muskegon Lake.

Windward Pointe is just one of several developments on Muskegon Lake that are already underway, including Harbor 31, Adelaide Pointe, The Docks and the redevelopment of effort of the former Shaw Walker Furniture Co. property nearby, each costing in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Residents interested in learning more are invited to attend a public engagement session at the Delta Hotel by Marriott Muskegon at 5:30 PM Thursday.
