UAW Strike

Detroit automakers say they offered new contract proposals up to the strike deadline that included what they call “historic” wage increases

For the first time in its history the union is targeting all of the Big Three automakers at one time.

UAW President Shawn Fain says the union is initially stopping work at three separate facilities, but could escalate the strikes until it reaches a new contract with Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis:

“All options remain on the table. National leadership will determine the appropriate targets and timing for further stand up strike action. This is our generation’s defining moment. The money is there…the cause is righteous, the world is watching.”

Detroit automakers say they offered new contract proposals up to the strike deadline that included what they call “historic” wage increases.

In a statement, officials with Stellantis criticized UAW leadership for “refusing to engage in a responsible manner to reach a fair agreement.”

The company says it will initiate contingency plans designed to protect its operations.
