Michigan bills to give workers paid time off for certain health and family situations have already been introduced this year.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks says plan specifics are still being worked out.
“There are some good models out there. We’re going through all the pros and cons of how to do it, but we think there’s a good space there that we can make a real difference for people.”
But Republican Representative Phil Green says he doesn’t think it’s the government’s role.
“I’ve told many people, ‘Look, if you really want to screw something up, let the state government get involved.”
Lawmakers come back from summer break next week.
