Oldest child welfare organization in Grand Rapids launches 21st Century and state-of-the-art facility

Officials from DA Blodgett/St. Johns (DABSJ) Thursday officially cut the ribbon on its new, and nearly $14 million headquarters in Grand Rapids.

According to the non-profit, the 43,000-square-foot facility will relocate all of DABSJ’s staff and services to the new campus.

And it’s been a long time coming, and goal finally realized, as the ribbon cutting Thursday cements the merger of D.A. Blodgett and St. John’s Home that was forged over a decade ago.

Officials say, the new space is a marriage of the past and the future, as both organizations were founded in 1887.

Now, in 2023, DABSJ is equipped with a facility that will ensure its mission of improving the lives and outcomes of children and their families for another generation.

According to a press release, “the new headquarters features a new health and family clinic, community meeting space, gymnasium and educational and wellness spaces, while the building also contains many intentional features that may be easily overlooked by the public but are incredibly impactful to the youth and families served at the facility.”

Combined, the 136-year-old organization impacts 14,000 people annually while also saving $2m over the next two decades by consolidating operations into one central facility.
