Voters approve new millage in Dalton Township that will provide fire services around the clock

The Dalton Township Fire Department in Muskegon County is breathing a sigh of relief this morning after voters Tuesday narrowly approved a new millage that will pay for the salaries of three new firefighters.

The department says, the addition of staff will provide firefighting efforts in the township 24-hours-a day; without the need of relying on paid-on-call firefighters, whose response times can be less than ideal when emergency situations occur.

The new millage passed by an unofficial 79 votes in support as of Wednesday morning.

Officials say the staff should be in place by April of 2024.
