Voters in Muskegon Tuesday considered six candidates running for two seats up for grabs on the city’s board of commissioners.
In Muskegon’s 4th Ward, three candidates faced off; challenger Katrina Kochin, challenger John Carey, and incumbent and current Muskegon City Commissioner Teresa Emory.
Unofficial results early Wednesday morning showed Kochin holding off Carey, while Emory cruised to victory--roughly doubling the number of votes that separated her from the other two.
Meanwhile in the city’s 2nd Ward, challengers Mike Gallavin and Jeanette Burt-Moore both were hoping to unseat current city commissioner and incumbent Willie German Jr. who also serves as the Vice Mayor of Muskegon.
Voters overwhelmingly supported German and Burt-Moore, however, less than 50 votes separated the two.
The final candidates from each ward will now go head-to-head in November’s general election.
