Grand Haven Mayor Catherine McNally out as former Mayor Robert Monetza hopes to get his old job back

Andrea Hendrick also wins primary as she and Monetza will face off in November.

After serving just one term, Grand Haven Mayor Catherine McNally will not get the opportunity to seek re-election this November, after voters Tuesday cast their ballots for two challengers instead—one of them--a former Mayor of Grand Haven that McNally unseated two years ago.

The other is Andrea Hendrick, a geographic information system analyst who previously served on the city’s planning commission.

Back in 2021, former Grand Haven Mayor Robert Monetza lost his re-election bid after current Grand Haven Mayor Catherine McNally won by a large deficit.

However, two years later, news of McNally's loss Tuesday is not necessarily a shocking one to some Grand Haven area residents.

Since being elected mayor two years ago, McNally’s time in office has been a tumultuous one.

Last October, a citizen-led petition called and failed for her dismissal as Mayor, after McNally had tried to remove an elected councilwoman from office, as well as McNally’s reported efforts to block marijuana businesses from operating in Grand Haven,

Meanwhile, Former Mayor Robert Monetza will now have the opportunity to get his old job back as he and Andrea Hendrick will face each other in November’s general election.
