Move provides a path for City of Grand Rapids amphitheater construction.

The Kent County Road Commission cut the ribbon and open the doors to its new 150,000 square foot garage located at the Walker View Industrial Park near the Walker View interchange at 4 Mile Road and Walker Avenue. The complex houses a storage building more than 17,000 square feet with storage for up to 6,000 tons of salt.

In 2016 the Kent County Road Commission purchased the 29-acre site. Space at its 14-acre downtown Grand Rapids Central Complex located at 1500 Scribner Avenue NW - built in 1924 - was limited and aging.

The expansive, centrally located facility offers easy access to the county’s freeway network and nearly 2,000 miles of county roads.

The City of Grand Rapids purchased the Scribner property for $7.45 million in 2021. It will relocate its Fleet Management facility currently housed at 201 Market Avenue SW to the Scribner complex. The move allows for the City of Grand Rapids riverfront development and construction of a 12,000-seat amphitheater along the Market Avenue corridor. The estimated $116 million amphitheater is scheduled to open in spring of 2026.
