Authorities say, so far, 14 girls have come forward but there could be others

Authorities said Friday an additional 9 victims of sexual assault have come forward since a former Kent County Gymnastics Coach was arrested last month.

Shannon Guay fled to Florida years ago after authorities say he abused numerous young girls while employed at a gymnastics studio in Grand Rapids between 2006 and 2008.

Police caught up with him last month, extraditing him back to Kent County and originally charging him with abusing five victims. Since that time however, authorities say an additional 9 victims have come forward alleging that Guay had sexual assaulted them as well.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s office, authorities began investigating after someone called gymnastics studio Aerials & Baranis Gymnastics, describing being sexual assaulted multiple times.

He was arrested in Charlotte County, Florida, on May 10.

Guay faces multiple counts of first-degree and second-degree criminal sexual conduct, however, prosecutors say, while a number of victims have come forward, there may be many others who will now have the courage to speak up as well.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators by calling 616-632-6125 or call the Kent County Sherrif’s office.
