Similar ideas came up before when lawmakers mulled how to respond to high profile sex abuse at the hands of university doctors like Michigan State’s Larry Nassar and U-of-M’s Robert Anderson.
But Democratic Representative Julie Brixie says reforms made in 2018 fell short.
“There’s a lot of people that have been left out that have recognized what happened to them but have no avenue for justice because their statute of limitations expired when they were children.”
The bill package would also give survivors more time to sue and remove governmental immunity in cases where state employees failed to prevent abuse.
