The Literacy Center of West Michigan just announced the launch of its English Language for Small Business program.
The Literacy Centers English language program is in partnership with the West Michigan Asian American Association and Asian American and Pacific Islander Chamber of Commerce.
A news release says the hands-on 13-week course equips aspiring business owners with essential English language skills within the context of establishing and growing small businesses. The program is made possible with a $7,500 grant from Huntington Bank.
Marcus Little, customized workplace English program director, Literacy Center of West Michigan says, "When entrepreneurs can effectively communicate with customers, staff, and suppliers, they unlock new opportunities, foster stronger professional relationships, and cultivate an environment of inclusivity and understanding. This, in turn, creates a solid foundation for a thriving business and a more connected community.”
The English Language for Small Business class meets once weekly in person on Tuesday mornings at the Bamboo Place Cultural Center and once virtually on Saturday mornings. The curriculum uses the national ProLiteracy model as a framework and includes topics such as customer service and professionalism, small business practices and growing the business.
