Workers for The Rapid are demanding safety improvements and halting what its union is calling unfair labor practices

Rapid workers are holding an informational picket Wednesday afternoon. Transit workers will gather in downtown Grand Rapids outside the Rapid Central Station beginning at 3:45.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 836 is bringing awareness to three areas of concern demanding improved safety, an end to service cuts and treating its members with respect.

To that end, in a news release, union leadership said, “the Rapid unilaterally imposed wages without bargaining in good faith as outlined in their contract.”

The union is also pushing for improved safety referencing an uptick in violence and threats experienced on Rapids buses.
