An Oakland County judge ruled school district employees don’t fall under the state’s open records law. That’s after a parent asked the Rochester school district to share materials used in an ethnic and gender studies course.
Steve Delie is the Mackinac Center’s director of transparency and open government. He says the school district’s response fell short.
“It didn’t give you a reading list. There was not really a good description of curriculum. There wasn’t a course outline. There weren’t handouts or assignments.”
A statement from the school district did not address the case or its claims, but said the district -quote- “continues to focus on the education, growth, safety, and wellness of our students, staff and school community.”
