A state elections board has reluctantly moved ahead with a partial recount of ballots cast in some precincts in the 2022 elections. The recounts will cover two ballot proposals

The meeting grew heated at times. Here, Republican board chair Tony Daunt faced off with a recount attorney.

“This is a fishing expedition.”

“That is a pre-judgement, sir, and I find that offensive.”

Daunt said the recounts will be closely watched to make sure they stay in bounds.

“This is an effort to get in and start filing subpoenas or that forensic audit nonsense and that is not what this is about.”

One reason for the skepticism is the partial recounts have no chance of reversing the results that added abortion rights and voting rights amendments to the state constitution – but could be used to fuel election conspiracies.
