Whitmer appeared before a crowd of supporters after a few hours of sleep and a concession call from Republican nominee Tudor Dixon.
In broad terms, Whitmer outlined some priorities, including LGTQ rights and reproductive freedom. She also cheered the adoption of a ballot measure to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.
“We’re going to move this state forward (applause) We’re going to move this state forward and I am excited about the work we are going to continue to do together.”
Whitmer will be working with Democratic majorities in the state House and Senate – a trifecta that’s eluded Democrats for the past four decades.
