Whitmer leads Democrats to historic victory sweep

AP (via PBS)

Governor Gretchen Whitmer formally declared herself the winner of Tuesday’s election as Republican nominee Tudor Dixon conceded the race

Whitmer appeared before a crowd of supporters after a few hours of sleep and a concession call from Republican nominee Tudor Dixon.

In broad terms, Whitmer outlined some priorities, including LGTQ rights and reproductive freedom. She also cheered the adoption of a ballot measure to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.

“We’re going to move this state forward (applause) We’re going to move this state forward and I am excited about the work we are going to continue to do together.”

Whitmer will be working with Democratic majorities in the state House and Senate – a trifecta that’s eluded Democrats for the past four decades.
