Two west Michigan political leaders with name recognition squared off with Winnie Brinks defeating Tommy Brann.

Republican State Representative Tommy Brann faced Democratic State Senator Winnie Brinks in the newly drawn 29th Senate District. It includes East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Township, Grandville, Kentwood and Wyoming.

Brann, a Wyoming small business owner served three terms in the Michigan House representing the 77th District. Brinks from Grand Rapids, seeking re-election to a second term defeated Brann.

“It’s just a lot of gratitude. We’ve worked really, really hard here in Grand Rapids over the last 10 years that I’ve been in office and it’s just a pleasure to be able to serve the people here. A chance to go back to Lansing to really work as a partner with the governor and the legislature and my colleagues there and really get some stuff done.”

Brinks ran on a platform including prioritizing education funding, investing in small businesses and access to quality health care.
