Jim Henson exhibit at Grand Rapids Art Museum

Grand Rapids Art Museum
Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog

The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited is now open at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

“Jim Henson is an icon, but he’s also a creative genius.”

Dana Friis-Hansen is GRAM Director and CEO.

“One of the things that this show has helped me understand is that his imagination was boundless and that he didn’t stop going and stop imagining different characters, different stories that span broad range of human experiences.”

Appealing to all ages. The hope is the Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited will have people thinking differently about what art is and creativity?

“We have 170 objects that span his entire life and career.”

Christopher Bruce is Deputy Director for Art, Learning and Engagement.

“Everything from his initial sketches to the puppets that everyone knows and loves; Kermit, Burt & Ernie, Gonzo, the Fraggles, and also deeper cuts, as well. Some of the darker work that he did; Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and an exploration of how he was pushing boundaries from the very beginning. He never settled. He didn’t want to be just a puppeteer. He wanted to be the best. He wanted to create art to share with the world.”

The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited at the GRAM is open to the public now through January 14th.
