The Affiliate Historically Underrepresented Businesses Program aims to develop and equip underrepresented contractors with tools to help grow their business with the intention of creating generational wealth

Construction Allies in Action is working to support underrepresented commercial and residential construction contractors in growing their businesses, by launching the first phase of its new Affiliate Historically Underrepresented Businesses (HUB) program.

The Affiliate HUB aims to develop and equip underrepresented contractors with tools to help grow their business with the intention of creating generational wealth. The initiative is a continuation of Construction Allies in Action’s Strong Foundation’s Program. The nonprofit was founded in Grand Rapids.

“By strengthening and generating more qualified construction businesses, we can provide pathways to financial growth while supporting our community’s economic development efforts, said Terrell Daniels, Construction Allies in Action board member, “This is the bridge between the Strong Foundations Program and the construction industry that we want to continue to nurture and grow.”

In its first phase, Affiliate HUB will provide local vendors’ services like web design, marketing, and safety training to contractors in the program at a discounted rate. As demand grows, Construction Allies says it plans to add legal services, documentation, employee training, office support and more.

The program will also coach members in the market, whether it’s how to effectively bid for jobs or network in the industry. The group estimates members could see revenue increases of 20% on average after one year in the program.

“The Affiliate HUB is a way of providing services at a discount so underrepresented contractors can keep growing,” said Elizabeth Bovard Strong, president of Construction Allies in Action. “This resource ensures underrepresented contractors can continue their business growth journey and remain competitive in the construction industry.”

Affiliate HUB Membership is a tiered system based on a company’s expected annual revenue. The program will cover 50% of vendor costs for member businesses with annual revenues under $100,000 and 25% of vendor costs for members with annual revenues more than $100,000.

Construction Allies in Action aims to enroll 15 contractors in its program by 2024.
