'Break the Stigma' Events scheduled for mental illness awareness week

Sheldon House, a program of Cherry Health, will host five mental health awareness events as part of Sheldon House’s annual “Break the Stigma” week in honor of Mental Illness Awareness Week.

A news release says Sheldon House is one of the largest Clubhouse International programs in the state and a leader in the model, using an international, evidence-based approach to provide life-changing opportunities and support for those living with mental illness in Kent County.

With the help of professional staff, Sheldon House offers members the opportunity to belong, contribute to the community and receive support among other things.

Tara VanDyke, Clubhouse Manager of Sheldon House said, “Rather than being a ‘best-kept secret’ for mental health in Kent County, the goal of our ‘Break the Stigma’ week of events is to raise awareness about mental health and become the best-known resource in Kent County.”

Sheldon House and Cherry Health will celebrate Mental Illness Awareness Week with five days of stigma-breaking, awareness-raising and support-giving opportunities from Oct. 3-7. All the events are open to the public. You can find more information on the Sheldon House Facebook page.
