Michigan election officials say two proposed constitutional amendments meet requirements to get on the November ballot

Elections staff found both collected well over the required number of signatures to go before voters.

One of the amendments would guarantee the right to abortion in Michigan. A 1931 law that criminalizes abortion is currently blocked by court injunctions.

Doctor Rossana DeGrood works with the campaign for the abortion-rights amendment.

“We don’t want young girls whose bodies aren’t ready for children being forced to give birth after being the victim of rape or incest. We don’t want politicians in the exam room, and we don’t want the government meddling in deeply personal and private health care decisions.”

The other amendment recommended for the ballot aims to expand voter access.
