Congressman had previously served in the 4th District before redistricting changed boundary lines

Two candidates faced off in Tuesday’s primary to be the Republican candidate in Michigan’s newly drawn 2nd Congressional District.

United States Representative and Congressman John Moolenar had previously served three terms in Michigan’s 4th Congressional District before beating challenger and Veteran Tom Norton in Tuesday’s primary.

As a newcomer to the 2nd District, Moolenar said he has a message to those who voted for him, and to those who did not.

“To all the new voters who voted for me, I thank you,” Moolenar said. “And to those who did not, I will listen to your concerns, and work hard to earn your support.”

Moolenar now moves on to the General Election in November, and will face Democrat Jerry Hilliard who ran unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.
