Mark Huizenga defeated challenger Keith Hinkle by a wide margin in the Republican primary

In Michigan’s newly drawn 30th Senate District, incumbent Mark Huizenga defeated challenger Keith Hinkle by a wide margin in the Republican primary. The new district expands within Kent County into portions of Grand Rapids – and beyond - into areas of Ottawa County. As the Walker Republican explained it, 60-percent of the district is new territory:

“Biggest differentiator is being at the doors. I myself personally at the doors every night and during the day getting to know people, hear their issues, and knowing that I care. Talking about the work that we’ve done in Lansing and trying to make a difference for them. Help them understand what we’re doing.”

Huizenga will face Grand Rapids Democrat, David LeGrand, in November.
