Democratic state lawmakers talk anti-LGBTQ sentiment in the Legislature

This week the Michigan House of Representatives passed a resolution for “Pride Week” and some lawmakers are worried about how much effort that took.

Democratic House lawmakers are giving credit to the Republican House Speaker for getting the resolution passed.

Still, Democratic Representative Tim Sneller says he’s concerned about a similar resolution declaring June as “Pride Month” stalling in the Senate.

“They moved the goal post. You want a change? Well, why did you adopt it last year and not adopt the same thing you adopted last year similar to what we just did in the House?”

Democrats say the Senate resolution didn’t make it to a floor vote after Republican Senate leadership made new demands.

The Democrats claim those would have defeated the purpose of the resolution.

Communications staff for Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey did not respond to a request for comment.
