James Craig, a former Detroit police chief, is among the Republican candidates for Michigan governor who've been blocked from the ballot after the state's elections bureau said they failed to file enough valid nominating signatures.

The former chief missed his chance to get on the primary ballot last month when officials found evidence of signature fraud in his nominating petition.

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig made his write in campaign for the GOP nomination for Michigan governor official today. Michigan Public Radio’s Colin Jackson has more.

A tough road likely awaits Craig as write-in campaigns can become expensive…and fundraising could be a challenge.

Craig says he’s aware of the setbacks he’s facing.

“There’s still a possibility that we will generate donors but not to the level. I mean I’m just realistic. I mean given the dynamics of being taken off the ballot and the fact that now it’s a write-in. That is a challenge.”
