GRPS signs up with Davenport University is improving the teacher pipeline

Davenport scholarship program supports Bachelor of Science in urban STEM education.

Grand Rapids Public Schools is the first district in the state signing on with Davenport University. It’s offering a scholarship program addressing the state’s teacher talent shortage.

Davenport University is improving the teacher pipeline. It’s offering a $12,000 scholarship renewable for up to four years to students working toward a Bachelor of Science in urban STEM education.

Grand Rapids Public Schools signed an agreement with Davenport Monday creating 75 new scholarships.

The partnership is available to 10 state school districts. Davenport says its urban STEM education program, “provides elementary and secondary teachers with deep expertise in K-12 STEM instruction and culturally responsive teaching strategies to empower them and their students intellectually, socially, and emotionally.”
