Gas prices in Michigan set another record. A new 2022 high as the Russian-Ukraine crisis continues. And crude oil increases fuel the spike in gas prices.
Motorists are paying an average of $59 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $8 from when prices were their highest last November.
“Gas prices are increasing at a staggering rate. As of yesterday, the Michigan state avg was $3.97, just this morning that has already increased to 4. 03, so just in a 24-hour span the state average has increased 6-cents.”
That’s Adrienne Woodland, Spokesperson for AAA The Auto Club Group in Michigan talking about how quickly gas prices in Michigan and across the country are changing. This morning AAA reported the state average is up 42 cents compared to last week, setting a new 2022 high. Woodland says the gas price situation is fluid and volatile and its possible more records could be set this week.
“Right now, the national average is at 4.07, the all-time high is $4.11 a gallon, set back in 2008, so if these rates continue to increase, it’s possible that that record could get knocked off this week.”
Woodland says a couple tips for motorists struggling with record breaking prices is to combine errands to limit driving time, shop for the best gas prices, and perhaps pay cash, some retailers charge less for cash purchases and consider enrolling in a gas savings program.
