The Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan is urging residents to give wisely when making donations for Ukraine

“West Michigan is a very generous area. The problem is, is whenever there’s a big event or thing that’s going on, scammers take full advantage and Ukraine and donations is going to be no different.”

Troy Baker, is the Director of the Better Business Bureau Educational Foundation. He says while The Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan encourages generosity to help those in Ukraine, they’re also urging caution and asking potential donors to be deliberate in their giving.

“Far too often we see people lose money because they’re scrolling through their social media feed, they see something and click buy or donate with ever doing any research on the organization they’re giving to. And then they find out that it wasn’t what they expected. So go to give.org which is the Better Business Bureau’s wise giving alliance and learn about the charity to begin with, before you give anything.”

Baker adds if your desire is to get food and clothing to those in need, be sure to partner with the right group or charity.

“The important thing is to finding an organization that can get it there and get it there in a timely manner. So, you want to find those organizations that already work with Ukraine and with those areas the refugees are going to.”
