Grand Rapids’ municipal government today is looking for volunteers to help the city.

Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and City Commissioners are encouraging residents to consider applying to serve a board or commission.

The City of Grand Rapids has 42 boards and commissions. And city officials are hoping to get interested parties to apply.

Grand Rapids Mayor, Roslyn Bliss says, quote, “We are looking for individuals who love this city, have a passion for community service and who want to get more involved in City government,” she adds, “People who serve on our boards and commissions support City operations, review City initiatives, make development recommendations, protect our water, improve our neighborhoods and help shape the future of Grand Rapids.” End quote.

The City Commission and its Committee of Appointments appoints residents to boards and commissions to ensure representation from all three city wards. They also want representation of the overall diverse composition of the community. Officials say each of the different boards and commissions’ requirements may differ, but all begin through the application process.

City officials add residents are welcome to select a board or commission of interest and apply – even if they have never participated in City government. Several have immediate vacancies.
