Bond set in Fruitport murder of 18-year-old Norton Shores resident

Shooting took place as authorities received multiple school threats

Authorities Monday said they have charged a 21-year-old with open murder after a fatal shooting in the Village of Fruitport; meanwhile, prosecutors charged 8 Lakeshore students over the weekend for making school shooting threats.

Kevin Wilson faces life in prison without the possibility of parole in the fatal shooting. Police say a previous argument led Wilson to shoot 18-year-old Dylan Owens of Norton Shores in his car at around 3am.

The murder took place in front of the public library and adjacent to Pomona Park, as police responded to reports of gunshots by area residents.

A short time later, Owens had been apprehended and booked into the Muskegon County Jail. Authorities Monday set the bond is set at $2 million, and his preliminary hearing set for December 28th.

The murder follows an unrelated, yet still hectic time for Lakeshore authorities last week, as multiple school shooting threats were made.

Prosecutor DJ Hilson Friday charged eight more students with making threats against schools in Muskegon County, bringing the total number now to 17…

The threats closed multiple schools along the Lakeshore, as authorities feared a potential copy-cat scenario after the Oxford school earlier in the week.
