Jewish Theatre Grand Rapids presents Chanukah shorts this holiday season

The performances will hit the Spectrum Theatre at Grand Rapids Community College starting December 11th through the 19th.

As Chanukah festivities kick off, Jewish Theatre Grand Rapids is hosting a series of short plays to “lighten up your holidays.”

The theatre’s Chanukah shorts feature five plays rotating around a simple set, creating a full production. The performances will hit the Spectrum Theatre at Grand Rapids Community College starting December 11th through the 19th.

One of the play's directors, Jacob Dunham, said his production, "The Miracle of Chanukah," is a funny and raw look into holiday traditions and family.

“The title makes you think you’re going to watch a Hallmark holiday movie, but you’ll soon find out this group of characters, it kind of hits close to home...Sheri Wilner who wrote this script she created such truthful dialogue, a lot of family pokes and jabs, bickering and talking over one another and everything we see and witness in the holiday season," Dunham said.

With a mix of both Jewish and non Jewish performers and staff, Dunham said the play helps spread the joy of Chanukah not only to the audience, but to those on the stage as well.

“Everyone has been so welcoming and so willing to share the tradition and everything of the Jewish faith," Dunham said.
