Mel Trotter Ministries will host its Thanksgiving Community Meal in-person this Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, at DeVos Place. Officials say COVID precautions will be strictly enforced.

“It’s a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixins’. So, turkey and mashed potatoes, stuffing and pies galore. Will all be waiting for people when they arrive.”

That’s Beth Fisher, Mel Trotter Ministries Chief Advancement Officer. She says they are looking forward to once again serving those who might otherwise be alone on Thanksgiving Day - in person.

“We know that last year took a toll on so many of us, and being in community and not isolated as much as possible is just good for the soul. You can’t really have a community meal without the community, so we’re really looking forward to being there together.”

Mel Trotter is expecting to serve perhaps 15-hundred or more tomorrow. Fisher says Covid precautions and safety measures will be in full effect and strictly followed according to CDC guidelines.

“So, we’re doing everything we possibly can from a protocol and precaution standpoint. So, temperature checks at the door. Secondly we have hand sanitizers throughout the entire location, at the door. And most importantly everybody will be required to wear a mask, the entire time they’re in the building.”

Additionally, Fisher says they’re partnering with Cherry Health, which will be on site offering the COVID vaccine to those who want it.

Doors will open at this year’s event at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 25th  with the vaccine clinic running from 10 am until noon. The meal will then be served between 11 and 1 pm in the DeVos Place Convention Center, Ball Room.

Volunteer spots are all filled, but sponsorships are still being accepted to cover the cost of the meal. You can find information at meltrotter.org/thanksgiving.
