Time for the annual Mel Trotter Ministries Turkey Drop. The event gives the community an opportunity to come together for the holiday season and drop off frozen turkeys for neighbors in need. And Mel Trotter officials say the need is greater than ever.

This year marks the 18th year for the Mel Trotter Ministries annual Turkey Drop event. They partner with Feeding America West Michigan which will distribute the frozen turkey to food pantries and local organizations. Considering the pandemic along with other factors, Mel Trotter Ministries Chief Advancement Officer, Beth Fisher says they are experiencing an even greater need this year.

“In fact, with the rising price of groceries, the supply chain issues just everything possible that could be impacting this need, it is impacting, so the need is great.”

Fisher says the goal this year is 27-hundred frozen turkeys and they’ve already received up to two-thousand requests. She adds, they’re hoping the community comes together to surpass last year’s record setting event. All turkeys can dropped-off curbside.

“We’re so excited for the community to partner with us. So, from the hours of 7am to 7pm we will both at Celebration Cinema North and South. So, Celebration Cinema north and south from 7 am to 7 pm, we will be collecting frozen turkeys. “

Fisher says they look forward to what the community will do this year. She says if you can’t make the drop off, financial donations are also accepted. 15 dollars equals one frozen turkey. You can to meltrotter.org/turkey drop to make a donation. Again, the turkey is Wednesday from 7 am to 7 pm Celebration Cinema North and South.
