Rep. Mark Huizenga (R) wins State Senate race in 28th District

Mark Huizenga

The former Mayor of Walker thanks voters, calls serving West Michigan a 'great honor'

State Representative Mark Huizenga will soon be State Senator Mark Huizenga, as the Republican from Kent County easily defeated Democrat Keith Courtade Tuesday as well as two other candidates from the US Taxpayers Party and the Libertarian Party.

A historically red district, the win may of have come during the primary, when Huizenga won an extremely close 3-way-race back in August beating Rep. Tommy Brann and former Rep. Kevin Green by just a couple hundred votes, and all three had over 9000 votes in total.

The win came much easier Tuesday, however, Senator Elect Huizenga says, he doesn’t take it for granted, and is looking forward to his new role in the Michigan Legislature.

The seat in the 28th district had been held by Peter MacGregor--He stepped down after being elected to his current role as Kent County treasurer.
