The holiday season is often stressful on the wallet, especially for families with children. Lisa Anderson, Founder and Executive Director of Grace’s Table, is trying to alleviate the stress for teen mothers and usher in the community during what the organization calls "the most wonderful time of the year." The organization is asking for donations, sponsors and volunteers to help make the holiday happen.
“It’s the biggest event of our year, and we really lean it our community, our broader community for volunteer support," she explained, "...“For our families to even get out and get outside of Grace’s Table for the celebration and see that there’s not just their mentors or their circle of support but a community of people rallying around them, it’s really encouraging.”
Grace’s Table works with teen mothers and their families, helping them grow their education, skills and, most importantly, community. It’s something that became more difficult during the COVID-19 pandemic, as households were forced into isolation. Anderson said impacts hit financially as well.
“In any climate but especially since COVID has happened, the way we’ve seen a financial impact to many of our families, things just don’t look as cheery and bright at Christmas time," Anderson said.
Grace’s Table opened their holiday giving program to the community this month, with options to sponsor a family, volunteer, donate or purchase from its Christmas catalog.
